چکیده
Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc. ) is grown for food and income in Nigeria. A total of ten landraces bambara with varying seed coat eye colours were collected directly from farmers Kogi, Niger Kaduna States Nigeria taken to the Biochemistry Laboratory Kogi State University, Anyigba, proximate analysis. The results revealed significant differences among evaluated accessions all estimated parameters. Moisture content ranged 11.00 (Accession 007 010) 13.50 % 003), ash 0.08 007) 2.75% crude fibre 2.63 003) 6.30 007), fat 9.88 001) 15.85% 006), protein 12.47 24.61% available carbohydrates 42.17 56.66 . result this research reveals that nutritional composition falls within Food Agricultural Organization (FAO) standards therefore are an excellent source protein, lipid, carbohydrate mineral elements. crop will help alleviate problem malnutrition contribute security Nigeria, particularly poor rural families who cannot afford expensive animal protein.

Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) is an indigenous grain legume. It occupies a prominent place in the strategies to ensure food security in sub-Saharan Africa. Development of an efficient in vitro regeneration system, a prerequisite for genetic transformation application, requires the establishment of optimal conditions for seeds germination and plantlets development. Three type...
متن کاملVariation in Pod Yield Characters and Heritability Estimates in Some Cultivars of Bambara Groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc
Variation in pod and seed yield among twelve cultivars of Bambara groundnut was investigated in 2004 and 2005 cropping seasons. The mean performance revealed that BG7004AS despite its recorded low number of pods per plant, had the highest 100 seed weight, pod width, pod length, seed width and seed length, followed by BG7002AS, BG7009BS and BG70010AS, which had the best yield and yield component...

Flavonoids secreted by legumes play a major role as signal molecules for attracting compatible rhizobia. The aim of this study was to assess and understand the diversity of microsymbionts nodulating Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea L. Verdc.) landraces of different seedcoat colours using restriction fragment length polymorphism and phylogenetic analysis. Seedcoat pigmentation of landraces h...

The nutritional evaluation of the Bambara groundnut Ci12 landrace (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) seeds produced in Côte d'Ivoire shows a 19% content of protein, containing all the essential amino acids with tryptophan as the limiting amino acid, a total dietary fiber level of 10%, with a low soluble fraction content, and a fat content of 1.4%, with a high proportion of total unsaturated fatty ...

Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was used to assess genetic diversity among 100 selected bambara groundnut [Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc] landraces from a diverse geographic area of Tanzania. Eleven informative AFLP primer combinations generated a total of 49 scorable polymorphic amplification fragments across the bambara groundnut accessions. Genetic distances between all accessio...
